The United Kingdom's first Swift Awareness Week (UKSAW) will take place between Saturday 16th and Saturday 23rd June 2018.

To celebrate this special week, Walthamstow Wetlands will be hosting events to help raise awareness of the Common Swift and its plight. On Monday 18th June, Edward Mayer of Swift Conservation will be holding a talk on swifts - the most spectacular and charismatic urban bird, their sad decline and what can be done to help improve their numbers.

The talk will take place in the locally-listed Engine House which includes a 24-metre-tall Swift Tower with 54 specially installed swift nest boxes. In addition to the talk, there will be an out-of-hours guided walk through the site where visitors can see first-hand the swifts that visit Europe’s largest urban wetland nature reserve.

Manned by local swift experts, the stalls will include a variety of reading material and artefacts to encourage visitors to get involved.
