Walthamstow Wetlands is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Ramsar wetland designated site of international importance. The ten reservoirs offer a haven for overwintering wildfowl and are regionally important for breeding birds.
Due to the unpreceded interest in visiting the reserve out of normal visitor centre hours (10:30am - 4/5pm) we have taken the decision to cap the amount of birdwatching permits issued annually to protect the sensitive nature of the site.
