Big Wild Weekend

The Big Wild Weekend is two days of  wildlife and nature events taking place across the UK on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June. There are plenty of events for all ages and levels of interest - badger watches, picnics, wildflower walks, Father's Day events, evening nature rambles and even a music festival!

Wildlife Trusts across the country are running events helping you to discover and enjoy your local wildlife. The Big Wild Weekend takes place halfway through 30DaysWild – the UK’s annual nature challenge organised by The Wildlife Trusts and which runs from the 1st -30th June.

Big Wild Weekend Open Day for Children

Saturday 15th June, 10am-12pm; 1-3pm

Join the London Wildlife Trust  in celebrating Big Wild Weekend with an open day in the outdoor learning space at Walthamstow Wetlands. Take part in pond dipping and mini-beast hunting, dig for worms, look after the garden or learn more about the work we do.

Children will need to be accompanied.

Guide in a Hide

Saturday 15th June, 10am - 12pm

There will now be a member of the site's dedicated birding community inside the hide every Tuesday and Saturday between 10am - 12pm to help guide and inform visitors, answer questions and help with a spot of birdwatching. There is no need to book or register - visitors can just drop in and speak with one of our fantastic experts all about the wonderful birds they can see from the bird hide.

Free Guided Walk for Big Wild Weekend

Saturday 16th June, 2-4pm

Come and join a free guided walk at Walthamstow Wetlands led by London Wildlife Trust volunteers. Learn about the history of the Wetlands and the wonderful wildlife on site. Walks last around 90 minutes.

Meeting place is the Engine House. No booking required however numbers are limited to 20 people so attendance is on a first-come first-served basis.

Public guided tours are for individuals and small groups of up to four people only. If you are visiting as part of a larger group please email info@walthamstowwetlands.com

Insights into Insects Info Stall

Sunday 16th June, 1-3pm

As part of Big Wild Weekend, London Wildlife Trust Rangers will be sharing insights in to the interesting world of insects. Find us in the marquee by Coppermill Bridge for a closer look at creatures that live at Walthamstow Wetlands.
