Winter is a magical time for Walthamstow Wetlands, when London’s wildlife depends on the 211 hectare site for refuge, food and nesting sites. The reed fringed open water and scrub lined pathways become home to wintering waterfowl including Shovellers and Pochard, and Herons, Little Egrets and Cormorants come en mass to scope out nesting sites on the islands.
Why not take part in London Wildlife Trust’s photography competition and capture some of the wintery tales that Walthamstow Wetlands has to tell? There are three categories to enter, and three themes for inspiration. Send your entries in via social media using the hashtag #E17Wetlandsphotocomp or to Wetlandscomp@wildlondon.org.uk along with your name and contact details.
The themes for the competition are:
- Urban wildlife
- People and nature
- Water and life
- Young photographer – under 16’s
- Amateur photographer
- Smartphone photographer
Entries close on Sunday 27th January 2019. See terms, conditions and entry details here.
There will be a winner chosen for each category for each theme. Therefore each category will have three opportunities to win. Winners will be displayed in a public exhibition at Walthamstow Wetlands for members of the public to enjoy. Winners will also be invited to a private view and awards ceremony on Sunday 3rd February as part of the World Wetlands Day celebrations.
