bird watching permits

Birdwatching is now allowed onsite. Those with annual birdwatching permits will be able to access the site between 7am – 10pm and will also be able to access restricted areas. Anyone accessing these restricted areas must carry their annual birdwatching permits on them at all times – otherwise they will be asked to leave the site. Please click here for all site updates in light of current outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19.

Please note, birdwatching permits are no longer being issued for 2020.

Walthamstow Wetlands is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Ramsar wetland designated site of international importance. The ten reservoirs offer a haven for overwintering wildfowl and are regionally important for breeding birds.

Due to the unpreceded interest in visiting the reserve out of normal visitor centre hours (9:30am - 4/5pm) we have taken the decision to cap the amount of birdwatching permits issued annually to protect the sensitive nature of the site.
